St. George’s College (Week #87) – Day #399

Date for Entry: (Tuesday 12 November 2024)

Actual Date of Online Entry: (Saturday 30 November 2024)

[T1, W:11 – WD:48, (Td:3)*].

Dear Diary,

This morning came by in a rush. Thank God I got out of bed quickly and got ready. Daddy said the rain was supposed to come since weekend. We thought that maybe today would be that day because the mountains had disappeared by clouds.

I waited for the busses and got down Sixth Avenue quickly. Another student had an umbrella in their hand because we didn't know if the rain was going to break down. I saw Mr Vince in his car. Maybe Miss Mary came for the morning with him.

I went straight to Mr Richard to avoid walking back up the corridor. Also had to run to the washroom. That was more convenient. I had my laptop set to charge and then updated the ending to last Friday's journal entry. This will be my experimental challenge of trying to type the entries over WhatsApp to avoid writing and then typing (as removing double work).

Miss “Celia” came out and mentioned the poor attendance with teachers and it looked like a lot was going to be late or absent. She mentioned that less than half of the first page was signed. Jess came and she was busy with her role and chatting with Mrs Santana. We were told that there was registration for CAPE Examinations and the signing of documents in the hall. Maybe that explains why they had the plastic cones to block parking in the yard.

There were words from Miss Harris about electrical work in the area. Sounds like she wanted a holiday on Thursday like the rest of the other schools. Who knows what they will be doing on that day?   It was nice to see Mr Charles come in. The rain was finally coming down. Miss Soodeen came in with a weird-sounding voice like she was worried. She was asking for the Middle Managers to assemble in the conference room for an emergency meeting with the School supervisor. Maybe it was Dr Lubian-Baptiste. I hope that it is not something bad.

Jess came and asked if I was writing. She was very interested to see if she would ever get to see anything written in it so I told her she just had to ask. Of all the days she chose to go to, to picked the day of Miss Jones' retirement function. There were questions and revelations of some of the names used in the book. We spoke until 10 minutes into class.

1F was outside of the music room. They got their note on ties, slurs and dotted notes. Afterwards, the children were given a practice test. I continued grading the parang assignments that were submitted by the children. I decided to keep the papers for return at the next class. They needed to have a little discussion on submitting assignments.

We went into recess. 2M students came to practice while I went to the cage before the pies were all gone. It was not that big of a crowd there. It was nice to see "Mr Barbour" as he greeted me. I had the pies in the staffroom but then there was word that a meeting with the School Supervisor 3 with the staff was to occur for 15 minutes from the start of the fifth period.

I went to let Jess know in the music room. Need to get my things from there too. As I was rushing out the door, I accidentally knocked myself into a chair while the Form 4s were writing their note. She said, “Huh! Like yuh real movin’ out, sir!” Dr Lubian-Baptiste began at 11:38 AM and concluded at 12:08 PM (see logbook for details).

  1. Miss Harris to speak on Dr Baptiste’s invitation.
  2. TUTTA Report.
  3. Lab issues.
  4. OSHA Committee Response.
  5. OJT Support and functions.
  6. MTS staffing details.

[END OF MEETING.]

It was expected that the school create an OSHA committee by the next time the Supervisor returned on business to the compound. Lunchtime continued. I went down to the pan room to see the remainder of the practice. They sound good. I left there to go use the washroom. This was the third time for the day with all the coldness. I had a while sitting down at my desk.

Once Javid came back I started working on the author's Card. I was lucky that the measurements were in inches. At first, I used the ruler. It was beginning to be very frustrating that after 3 trial prints, I could not have gotten the card to be perfected. The call number section was too small. I had set it to one inch, and the indentation section as half of an inch. The paper still looked very blank. It would have been just the way it should be according to the 'rules' but it required a bit more artwork for my taste.

On the reversed side, the columns table was adjusted and then it was time to head out. I was able to complete all of this with only 1 minute to 2:30 PM. The walk up the road was a very swift one. Many of the students were walking up the road and taking their time. I walked with "Sheep" and his friend. One bus was waiting and I went with it.

The Curepe area was filled with students and rainwater everywhere. Daddy came after a while and we went up to Isa. One gentleman and I were waiting there for a while. Started to feel sleepy myself since being on the bus. As soon as the gentleman was gone I tried sleeping on myself. I started to feel sick that we had to leave the work for tomorrow. We had to go to the bakery first before going home.

I took an hour and then decided to do some work. I had the Author's Card (3.2) emailed to Isa for the next day and went to work on the "I Give Myself Away" melody fully transcribed. Hopefully, the chords will not be as troublesome as the melodic dictation. I ended up going to bed late. The board meeting was going on when I messaged Clarence. It was only late that I saw his message earlier that evening.
