Dear Diary,
This morning I
had a tough time waking up. I was late to school too, waiting for the empty bus
route for transportation. In San Juan, police officers were busy stopping buses
and maxis. The walk down Sixth Avenue was lonely and ghostly, too.
I was surprised
to see the line of teachers' cars parked around the school, but the staffroom
wasn't that filled. Maybe a lot of the teachers were there, but just out in
their classes. It was good to see "Celia's" bag there on her desk.
Hopefully, I will get to work on the regularity and punctuality today. Jess came
walking in as soon as I sat down at my desk.
The first thing
I did at my desk was to get my logbook to fill up the empty entry headings for
Carnival Monday and Tuesday. Mr Charles was organising the Business
Department's exam papers for printing. While writing and he was done, he said,
"Daryl! Ah have ah whole load of [exam] papers line up fuh yuh." I
replied, "Nice!" He was shocked, saying, "Nice?" Maybe he
didn't see why I was happy about that. I told him that it was not nice if the
printer was still not working. I informed them that the printer had crashed
last Friday. He said, "Well, daiz nuh your issue. Daiz de print-ah
issue."
Not sure if Mel
was there. It was better to wait until recess than go over to the Art Building
before I was yanked into different work I would not have wanted to do so early
in the morning. When it was time for class, Jess came and said that she was
going to get the children to move the pans in the hall back to the music room.
I was met by "Miss Bacchus" asking for Suck-ah-bags for Miss. They
sadly did not have any pepper today. I still got Channa in them.
While eating at
my desk, Mrs Santana came to chat with me. She said that she was hearing that
my time on the contract would be coming to an end soon, and she didn't believe
that it was so soon. She spoke about other things with me before going back to
her desk. I went off to the art room to see if Miss was ready with the marking.
She got the things ready to go, and Miss Mary joined us with the marking, too.
The process was very slow, and we were in the heat. We got six pieces marked
from 12:01 to 12:01.
I was wondering
what was going on in the office all this time while marking the pieces. I left
to go and visit them. The same usual was going on*. Rhea was showing me that
there was a Coca-Cola made with cherry and that she loves Coca-Cola. I went to
make copies for "Maria" as soon as I saw her message about the test
papers she had been putting off since last week. The machine began sticking on
the last one. The total copies that she requested were not completed. I left a
handwritten note on the top of the paper, batching her copies.
The rest of the
machine began to stick again. Mr Eustice wanted to get some signs, and Patty
said to him, "Oh, don't forget we could use Mr Ali. He's good with the
computer." She showed me some pictures that I could use to make the sign.
Sir said that the wording for "rough play" should be changed to
playing. I got the changes made, but then we waited a long while for the
printer to work. The wrong printer was set, and then we tried again. Then it
was stalled and could not go.
Only after
school, the copies were waiting in the tray. I had to cancel the rest of the
copies. Eight documents were lined up from other persons before, and there was
an annoying error marking on all of them. That evening, I got two Parents' Day
letters formatted and printed for Patty in the office. There was a date that
had to be changed on the older one. She signed them, and then the stamp was
printed onto the document*. She took them home with her.
I went to use
the washroom and got my tray to deliver the copies from last week that were not
collected. Only Susan and "Cleo" were there. It looked like
"Cleo" got the cold. Miss Chote spoke to me before she left, saying
that the HODs were supposed to give her the exam papers before she gave them to
me. We noticed that there was a test paper halfway printed, and it was missing
pages. That's why she was reminding me.
That evening, I
went up to Cureoe. The wait for transport was long at that time. I wanted to go
and visit Isa for prints. This document was the SL and OL files for the
teachers. Thankfully, there was a PDF saved for it. He noticed the twisted
writing and had to find yellow Bristol board. Daddy, too, noticed the
upside-down text. I showed him why from my copy on regular paper. The rest of
the night, from 7 PM was working on this alone.
When I saw that
it was 9 PM, I didn't bother to do any cataloguing again, as I was planning. I
worked up to 12:24 AM, and the rest of the files were completed. Only masking
tape for paper punch reinforcements would be the last to be done once I could
find the roll in school tomorrow. I got the folded portions of the files stuck
with Scotch tape. I used half of my roll. It wasn't a new one, but good to have
an idea of the amount.
While writing in
each letter of the teachers’ names, it was difficult the balance the tiredness
of myself, my tiredness and the concentration. Some of the colours were mixed
up, I did what had to be done, to look on the positive side. That was me and
"Summer House". I tried to find a worksheet for the book that I made,
but it was missing.
Three long weeks
had passed, and the book could have been finished, but now I can't remember if
I did the last questions for 40 points or if they got lost, or if I thought I
did it and didn't do it. I will have to come up with something else to complete
the rest of the book. I hope the morning will not be so difficult.
